This Rhode Island Red hen hasn't let her molting slow her down a bit. They are nearly impossible to catch by yourself. Thank the stars for fishing nets.

It is a strange thing to me that Mother Nature would have chickens molt as the weather is getting colder. But that appears to be the case. One of the benefits of molting is the replacement of the feathers. New healthy shiny feathers! And the old feathers can be collected for projects. Another benefit is, the hen's egg production will increase after the molt is completed. Molting 3 year old Plymouth Patridge Rock.
